An Achievement Alternative for the Overwhelmed

To the overwhelmed overachievers staying at home right now with extra time to spare:

I’d like to offer a a release from Achievement. You don’t have to Do or Complete anything. You don’t need to Produce something. You don’t have to Finish anything. You can. But you don’t have to. Staying in helps tremendously on its own. For extra credit, take care of yourself 🙂

Right now, I feel the urge to take on or lead extra projects, extra challenges, when really – everyday life is its own challenge!

(And as an online sole proprietor, I’m fortunate enough to be conducting business as usual).

Let’s achieve just one thing: reframing achievement. Let’s measure it in our own, individual ways, not necessarily in pages read, or words written (but if counting helps, of course, carry on). I’m embarking on the challenge of no new challenge. Instead, I’m tracking My Achievements, such as:

🏆 Going outside for a morning walk in place of a commute, to the tune of Molly Beck’s podcast, ‘Smart, Pretty, & Awkward

🏆 Taking an extra moment to select the right playlist for writing this morning

🏆 Dressing up in my most dramatic top with a statement necklace from Godiva Boutique

🏆 Setting a new household rule: No checking the news after 7pm

🏆 Taking breaks to observe the family ghoul

Upon reflection, what these Achievements have in common is that I accepted the extra time, and spent it in ways that rejuvenate me. Not filling the time or passing the time, but receiving it.
