My university room is my bedroom, study, library, yoga studio, and kitchen. With no oven or stove, I am ever so grateful for my electric steamer.
It’s surprisingly easy to make an entire meal out of steam (and raw vegetables). My fellow foodie friend Emma and I share a weekly veg box from OxCo-op which is ethical, delicious, and an easy option for food shopping.
A typical meal:
Spinach and orange (from the Gloucester Green Market, where I get all my fruit) salad with balsamic vinaigrette as a starter while the veg steams. Simple salads are surprisingly tasty!
And for the main course (because meals are so much more glamourous in courses, non?), some steamed leek, potato, and carrot with a bit of margarine. With good quality vegetables, this meal doesn’t seem plain at all! Especially in a Hello Kitty bowl.
What are your tips for student cooking? I’m always looking for suggestions!
