A Poem

One thing at a time
& never more than two.
I said I’ll watch it in the background-
No! Never Multitask, scolded you.

Took your advice to your alma mater:
When I had two essays due,
I’d write one then the other
One thing at a time
Finish one early if I had to.

So now I’m returning to what I was learning,
Not about writing, but how I write.
When too many ideas wrestle in my mind
I remember: one thing at a time.

In present day,
My snack has arrived,
but to take my advice, I can’t take a bite
Til I finish this rhyme
One thing at a time.
